As the only girl in this boys squad so far (ladies where ya at?), I decided it was time to show some love and appreciation to other women in the sports world.
Growing up as a girl who loves sports is never easy, especially when you’re me and have no athletic skill or ability but just simply have a love for sports.
Luckily for me, I had an older brother who always labeled me “the little brother he never had” and who was always willing to talk sports with me. He helped inspire my love for sports and for that I am forever thankful.
While a lot of progress has been made and we are starting to see female coaches, female refs, and female athletes are getting more recognition, in my opinion, there is still a long way to go.
I wanted to take a moment and spotlight some of my favorite female sports figures and athletes, my women crushes you could say.
First up, we have one of my all-time favorites, gymnast Simone Biles.
So, unpopular opinion, I think gymnastics is one of the greatest sports to ever exist. What gymnasts do with only their body is just mind blowing. I am honestly obsessed.
For those who don’t know, Simone Biles is THE GOAT.
With a total of 30 Olympic and World Championship medals, she is officially the most decorated American gymnast, and the world’s third most decorated gymnast.
She is so bad ass, that there are currently four elements (think a play in football, etc) named after her. I mean she was the first person to successfully complete four different skills, that they were named after her!
Like what? Gymnastics is insane. How she can do that is beyond me, but I am here for it.
According to the ever-trustworthy Wikipedia, her 2018 Vault Routine and 2019 floor exercise are the most difficult of all time in women’s artistic gymnastics.
Even other professional gymnasts call her the “greatest gymnast ever.”
I just wanted to show Simone Biles some love and appreciation because I think she deserves it.
Her athletic ability is ridiculous and I truly think she will go down in history as one of the greatest female athletes of all time.
Now, excuse me while I go YouTube some Simone Biles videos and live out my childhood gymnastic dreams through her.
